Saturday 26 June 2010

The villa Noailles swimming-pool is strangely invaded by exotic and mediterranean plants. A light green colour looks starting recovered the area…In the squash , Mehdi is fixing a huge poster, with a hand as tall as him!

But what Aldo Bakker is going to do? We will know it very soon, Aldo has just arrived.

Permanent exhibition, work in progress

Saturday 26 June 2010

Few pictures of the permanent exhibition setting up. The villa Noailles technical team, curators, scenographers and interns are hardly working to prepare this exhibition, it will be public open since the 2nd of July. Two “silkscreen printing men” from the Oeil de Lynx studio already printed the villa initiale doors. About the windows, its have been engraved by a specialist of the glass engravement, Nicolas Hoffmann from the “En verre et contre tout” firm. Last exhibition pieces will arrived very soon to finish next week this splendid exhibition.

Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles as guests in their own house.

Friday 4 June 2010

We are very proud to announce that the Villa Noailles is opening this year a permanent exhibition for the first time! “Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles, une vie de mécènes” is the long-awaited opportunity to pay tribute to the Villa’s first inhabitants. Pieces of furnitures, photographies, art pieces and many other documents that have never been gathered since Marie-Laure and Charles left the Villa will contribute to this project.

The exhibit will be displayed throughout the initial parts of the building, in Charles and Marie-Laure’s bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms… Recounting the great life of the couple, it will focus on their unique relationship and support of avant-garde artists during the interwar period.  You will be able to discover the life of these fascinating patrons of the art.

Leave your binoculars at home and come and spy on Charles and Marie-Laure right in their house !

Sebastien Cordoléani is coming home !

Thursday 3 June 2010

Three years after winning the Grand prix at the villa Noailles, Sebastien Cordoléani is back in Hyères for a new exhibition. He will show the work he developed in Mexico entitled “Matières à penser” .

This two year project explores a topic which Sebastian cherishes: the use of locally sourced materials and craftmanships. In Mexico, he indeed discovered remarkable crafts and choose to focus on the Jipi technique used to make the renowned Panama straw hats.

Don’t forget yours to come and visit us in Hyères in the sunshine ! Sebastian’s work will be exhibited at the Tour des Templiers.

Aldo Bakker and his “creatures” are landing at Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles’ Villa!

Wednesday 2 June 2010

How could we introduce Aldo Bakker? Maybe as an alien in the dutch design landscape…. To start, he is Droog Design father’s son (Gijs Baker)… but this certainly doesn’t make him Droog Design’s son!

We could say he chooses a conceptual aesthetic and strives to bring together culture and nature in his personal work. In doing so, he litteraly gives sens to his shapes. Aldo is a designer:  maybe that’s actually the best way to introduce him.

The work he decided to exhibit  during the festival speaks about time, about eternity. Lacquering his objects with a very time-consuming and expensive technique (Urushi), Aldo questions the mass production process. He creates a time gap, his work is an invitation to meditation .

This exhibition will be displayed in the swimming pool and in the squash.

Come and take your time.

Antoine Boudin, the DP2009 winner is back at the Villa.

Tuesday 1 June 2010

Antoine Boudin, the Design PARADE 2009 Grand Prix is back in Hyeres during this next festival for an exhibition showing three different projects.

First, Antoine will exhibit his personnal project already introduced last year with the chair choosed by the jury: D’eici se vei l’Almanarre. This title refers to Antoine’s love and interest for Provence, where he grew up (near Avignon), and his fascination for the surroundings of the villa.

This year, Antoine has chosen to show different projects which question materials and techniques in a precise regional approach. Indeed, his projects address the notions of provencal landscape and ressources. To be more precise, Antoine Boudin works with briar wood (a provencal tree), he temper wood from the region in a rose wine from the South of France or works with techniques usually used in the petanque ball industry.

He also presents the result of the two residencies he won being awarded by the jury last year, the project of a shoe developed with Camper in Majorque during the 2009 summer and also his Sèvres project resulting of a one year residency at the Cité de la Céramique.

Antoine Boudin will be at the Villa Noailles during the three days of the festival so we hope that you will be there in great numbers to meet him in a place he particularly enjoys!
